Location of the Wooded Shrine in Rinto.

The Wooded Shrine (Japanese: 森の神殿 Forest Temple) is a temple on Route 1. It is home to legendary Pokémon Herbaris. The shrine cannot be entered until the Bug Statuette has been obtained, which requires the player to have entered the Hall of Fame.

Herbaris appears in the first room as a statue and will not awaken unless the player has the Forest Crystal. However, it cannot be reached due to fallen pillars and ledges. The player must go through the Cave of Earth if they want to reach Herbaris, and explore the rest of the shrine.

GeographyEdit

The Wooded Shrine is a temple-like building in the southeast area of the Rinto region. It is very run down and overgrown, and even has tall grass and trees growing in some areas. It has three floors, one above ground and two basements, and requires the use of Cut, Rock Smash and Strength to navigate. An entrance from the Cave of Earth is located on the lowest level. The wild Pokémon that can be found inside the shrine are mostly Grass, Ground and Rock-type.

HistoryEdit

The Wooded Shrine's origins are unknown, but it was presumably built by The Ancients shortly after Ixtura entrusted them with the Elemental Crystals. The requirement of the Bug Statuette to enter also suggests that the Shrine's completion roughly coincided with the first Bug-Catching Contest. According to Beatrice, the shrine used to be protected by several Psychic-type Pokémon before it fell into ruin.[1]
